NUNSA National and NCI Lead the Charge Against Nursing Quackery

Healthcare is a human right, but it only works when it is provided by trained, qualified professionals. On April 10, 2025, the streets of Lagos were filled with the voices of future healthcare leaders, nursing students and nurses making a stand for patient safety.

The Nigerian Universities Nursing Student Association (NUNSA) National in conjunction with Nursing Conception Initiaitve (NCI) organized a powerful awareness walk with a very clear message: Safeguarding Healthcare: Say No to Quackery in Nursing.

Why This Walk Mattered

In many communities, unqualified individuals pose as nurses. These “quacks” do not have the proper education or licenses to care for patients, which leads to wrong diagnoses, medication errors, and lost lives.

This walk was a key part of an ongoing campaign by the Nursing Conception Initiative (NCI) and other health authorities. Together, they are working to raise public awareness and ensure that only qualified, registered nurses are allowed to practice.

Event Highlights

The atmosphere was full of energy as students and professionals gathered to advocate for their profession and their patients.

Theme: Safeguarding Healthcare: Say No to Quackery in Nursing
The Route: The march began at the famous UNILAG Gate and moved through the busy streets all the way to Yaba.
The Goal: To talk directly to the public, explain the dangers of quackery, and encourage people to verify the credentials of their healthcare providers.

How You Can Help

The fight against quackery doesn’t end with a walk. As a member of the public, you can stay safe by:

Asking Questions: Don’t be afraid to ask for a practitioner’s license.
Using Approved Facilities: Always seek care at registered hospitals and clinics.
Reporting Suspected Quacks: If you see someone practicing nursing without a license, report them to the proper health authorities.
Support: Contribute to NCI and a volunteer, promoter, or sponsor.

By working together, NUNSA National, NCI, and the public can make sure that our healthcare system remains a safe place for everyone.
